Class Sequence
All our classes follow the same routine. This helps the children feel secure within their environment and helps build self esteem and confidence.
Settling in
At the start of every lesson, children play with age appropriate toys or read a book while they wait for everyone to arrive. We then sing our Toptots themed tidy up song while we put the toys away.
Greeting
Children say hello to Tom-E - the Toptots puppet.
Brag Time
The next 5 minutes is dedicated to giving Moms a chance to brag about their child and share experiences - whether it's positive or something that they may find challenging. We all like to hear about one another's experiences.
Valuable Activity Time
Here we focus primarily on fine motor skills and intellectual development. Each child is given their own box containing the day's activities and the teacher will go about explaining what you will be doing. Moms are encouraged to ask questions - even if the teacher doesn't always have the answer, we can always look it up and talk about it amongst the group. We do not force the children to take part. Moms are encouraged to take the idea home with them, if necessary, and try it again in a quieter setting. Boxes are packed away at the end of the activity while we sing "put away the boxes".
Gross Motor Activity
The children are demonstrated the activity before being given the opportunity to try it out themselves.
Parachute
Besides having lots of fun, the parachute activities help develop various different areas of development. Babies love to look at the movement of the parachute and are captivated by the contrasting colours. Toddlers hold onto the handles and move their bodies while manipulating the parachute to the music - this is important for Gross Motor development. All children enjoy the accompanying music, which helps to develop a sense of beat, rhythm, timing and sequence.
Exercise balls
Babies and toddlers develop their gross motor development and strengthen their core while having fun on the ball. Again, these activities have music to accompany them, which again fosters a positive response from the children as they move to the music.
Music time
At Toptots, children are taught a variety of action songs. They are also given the opportunity to express their feelings and emotions, creatively, while dancing and playing various interesting instruments in free expression. Again, children use the Toptots themed "put away the instruments" song as a cue to do just that.
I love you
The children sing along with their moms, while giving kisses, cuddles and showing their love for one another.
Creative/Texture time
Each week, the children are given the opportunity to either create their own masterpiece using different mediums or play with different textures.
Say goodbye
We all sing goodbye to Tom-E. Toddlers are encouraged to say goodbye to their friends too to promote social skills.
